The Prez Sez...
I’m sitting at my computer writing this message
for the newsletter, wondering if it is ever going to be spring with warm
weather, blue skies, flowers blooming, and being able to drive my Mustang
without it getting snowed on!
I just looked at the weather forecast and it says it could be almost 70 degrees soon; yeah right, can you ever truly believe the forecast? I hope it is for all us car folks’ sake. This coming month marks the beginning of “car season” with all it’s activities and shows that we’ve planned for this year. Starting with the Shakedown Cruise on May 3rd where we’ll meet at Yoke’s on Trent and Argonne at 10:00. That’s followed closely by another attempt at a road rally and on and on. I encourage you to participate in as many activities as you are able to this coming year. Participation in club activities is the way we get to know one another better and become even closer friends that some of us already are. I know I’m looking forward to a car season where I get to know some of you that I haven’t had the chance to talk with yet.
For now polish up the car, anticipate good weather, drive between the snowflakes and raindrops, give a wave to all the other Mustang drivers out there, and stay safe.
Finally I’d once again like to thank those of you that step up and make this club what it is. I won’t attempt to name you all because I’ll forget someone. Just know that if you’re a chairperson of a committee or event, on the Board of Directors, talked during the meeting, hosting an event at your home or coordinating with someone to make something happen for the club you’re appreciated. Thank you all for what you do.

25th ANNIVERSARY/OVERNIGHT CRUISE
The 25th Anniversary of our club is this year. In celebration of this event we’ve planned an overnight cruise for August 16th. The cruise will leave Spokane and continue west through Airway Heights on Highway 2, we’ll cruise through the town of Reardan and then onto the town of Davenport. We’ll turn north on highway 25 and continue on past Old Fort Spokane, across the confluence of the Spokane River with the Columbia River, and to Two Rivers Casino. At Two Rivers there is lunch for those that want it, a convenience store, rest rooms, gas, and a nice paved parking lot. Total distance from Spokane to Two Rivers Casino is about 65 miles of highway driving.
Leaving Two Rivers Casino we’ll continue north on highway 25 following the Columbia River (Lake Roosevelt) for the next 66 miles. The route is all paved and is absolutely gorgeous. If you watch you may see deer, bear, or wild turkeys as you drive. While the speed limit is 55 mph we’ll most likely cruise around 50 mph so we can enjoy the scenery. We’ll continue north to the junction with highway 20 then turning back east and into the town of Kettle Falls. We’ll continue east on highway 20 another 9 miles to Colville, WA where arrangements have been made with the Colville Inn.
The Colville Inn is a nice Motel with a large paved parking lot with the management living right there on the ground floor. They’ve given us a rate of $69.00 plus tax for a double queen room, $63 plus tax for a king bed room, or $53 in their budget annex; I’ve had them set aside 15 rooms at this point. The rooms have coffee and refrigerators in the room and kids 18 and under stay free. Next door is a nice restaurant, but there are more just up the street in town, or just a short walk McDonalds and Taco Time. You’re on your own to make reservations the number is 1-800-680-2517 or 509-684-2517, just let them know you’re with the Mustang Club and ask for Teresa if she’s available.
The only surviving Drive In Theater anywhere near Spokane is located between the towns of Kettle Falls and Colville, we’ll drive by on the cruise into Colville. Those who can stay awake long enough to enjoy going a drive in movie can caravan to the theater and “hang out” just be aware that heading into the back seat may be noted in a future newsletter! Dale has also said there’d be a drawing sometime during the day to see which member will be the streaker at the movie!
There may be some members that don’t want to stay the night if that is the case cruise along with us, enjoy lunch and perhaps dinner with the group and then head back to town along highway 395, it’s just a little over an hour back to Spokane from Colville.
IF YOU CAN’T MAKE THE MEETING TO SIGN UP FOR THIS EVENT GIVE GARY A CALL, 922-1169, AND GET ADDED TO THE LIST.
ADOPT – A – HIGHWAY LITTER PICK-UP
With over 6 feet of wall-to-wall snow still burying the driveway between my shop and garage, its hard to fathom that it’s time to start thinking about doing our spring litter pick-up on Highway 395. Then I come out of the “wilderness” of downtown Spirit Lake and realize that there’s very little snow around in “civilization”!! So---it’s on!
The spring litter pick-up is scheduled for Saturday, April 19
th, at 10:00 am. We will meet at Fat Daddy’s parking area in the Wandermere Mall, split up into groups to cover our 2-mile stretch of Highway 395 and head out for some community service oriented exercise.Typically, the spring pick-up has more litter to gather than the summer & fall outings, primarily because of the larger gap between pick-ups so the more help we have, the better off we’ll be. Additionally, the first clean-up of the year yields the most “treasures” so it could be your “find” that we all talk about the rest of the year! So…..come on out and lend a hand!
WHAT: Adopt-A-Highway Litter Pick-up
WHEN: Saturday, April 19, 10:00 am
WHERE: Fat Daddy’s, Wandermere Mall 12424 N. Division (Hwy 395)
A sign-up sheet was passed around at the March meeting and will be available again at the April meeting. If can’t make the meeting to sign up and you’d like to join the crew, be at Fat Daddy’s on the 19th or contact Jim Fox at (208)623-4101 to sign up. See you there!
First Track Day of the Year
Due to conflicts at the track the date has now been changed to March 28th. So, if you want an experience you’ll likely never forget or simply want to be there to share some time with other members, come on down for an hour or the whole day. The track is HOT from 9 AM to 5 PM. For more info, Barry at (509) 468-8730.
It’s free and FAST fun!

A note from the Editor
Well I am almost thinking
I jinxed us saying “Bye-Bye Snow”. Doesn’t seem to have gone away. I am hoping
for much better weather so that we can all start getting those Mustangs out in
the sunshine. Here’s to wishful thinking and many sunny days to come!!!

DAA Northwest Auction April 30th
Come join us and volunteer for the DAA auction to support the club! These auctions really help the club and prevent us from having to do bake sales and car washes. Besides where else do you get the chance to drive some very unique cars. I have to say that this is probably one of the most fun auctions that is put on by Mitch Silver. There is always food provided (this makes the IEEC [Inland Empire Eating Club] of the IEMC very happy) so you will not miss out on dinner and this one is outside so it is a larger auction with a lot of neat cars. Meet at the auction site in Airway Heights around 5:00pm. Contact any officer for details on how to get there.
PLEASE COME OUT AND SUPPORT OUR CLUB!!!!!

Wishing Star Foundation—We Help Children’s Wishes Come True
Bill Widrig of the Wishing Star Foundation was kind enough to stop by and tell our club some of the great things that his group does for children with life-threatening illnesses. Bill stated that one of the ways that our club could help is by donating rides for the wish kids. Some other things that can be done by either the club or by individuals are gifts, cash donations, blankets for the Blankie Program and joining the local Chapter to become a volunteer. If you would like more information please contact Bill at 509-744-3411.

Get your story in for The Stang of the Month
![]()
As you probably noticed, last month‘s newsletter didn‘t have The Stang of the Month in it. Our ‗Stang of the month reporter has retired, so we are looking for stories from members about their prized Mustang. So please submit your stang for inclusion on the list of Stang‘s of the Month. Pictures are mandatory, but if you don‘t have any pictures, contact me and I can get someone to take some pictures. We‘ve got at least three photo bugs in the club with digital cam-eras, so setting up for a few shots should be pretty easy. Be creative, give interesting facts, history of the car, why you bought it, and anything else you think would be good reading.
